Record the prior invoice and payment only against the historical period they cover. Make sure the next renewal marks the start of the following cycle. Under Next Invoice, choose Add to Products Ready to Invoice, Create a Draft Invoice Now for This Service Only, or Decide Later, depending on what you need.
The first option prepares a queue, the second creates a draft, and the third leaves future billing undecided; none means payment or delivery to the client. Review the Legacy history and next invoice separately to avoid charging twice.
